In this work, we focus on the quantification of biphasic pattern effect on column temperature distribution with isothermal and nonisothermal GC/MS data. Based on the experiment and numerical modeling, the expression for the column temperature distribution (CTD) under biphasic pattern condition is first derived. For the isothermal GC/MS, the analytical expression for the CTD is calculated as a function of the biphasic fraction, the chromatographic time and the column temperature gradient. The solution of CTD equation under different biphasic fractions and column temperature gradients is then compared to the numerical model in which the isothermal gas flow field is replaced by the nonisothermal one. The results from these two methods show very good agreement in the biphasic fraction range of 1.5-3.5. The numerical method can be used to evaluate the biphasic fraction effect on the column temperature and the isothermal and nonisothermal CTDs obtained from GC/MS data may be used to calibrate the chromatographic system be359ba680
